Shared Reading/Read Aloud

Shared Reading:

Shared reading is when the student and the teacher both have the same text and the teacher reads it and models strategies. What I have learned so far during my time in an elementary classroom this semester, is how essential shared reading is. It is very important for the teacher to model for the students while they follow along, so the teacher can point out the vocabulary and concepts, among other things.

Read Aloud:

Read alouds are probably my favorite part of reading. The read aloud lesson I taught this semester was definitely my favorite lesson. The wonderful thing about read alouds is the freedom teachers have. For example, I chose a book that was phenomenal and very emotional. I saw emotions from some students in the class, that I have never seen show emotion before. The students absolutely love being read to, and it lets them use their imagination.
I believe teachers should read aloud to their class no matter what grade they teach. I will try to read aloud to my students on a daily basis in my future classroom because I believe it is essential. It is important for the students to consistently hear what good reading sounds like.
I feel so passionately about reading aloud because growing up, my mom was always reading to me. She would read amazing novels such as Incident at Hawks Hill, and Uncle Tom’s Cabin. I truly believe the reason I love reading so much today is directly because my mom read aloud to me so much when I was young.
